Guai a chi ci tocca

Guai a chi ci tocca.

Guai a chi ci tocca.

La luce diventa fievole sulla città. Eppure quella scritta continua a farsi vedere, a farsi sentire.

Guai a chi ci tocca.

Our world, in a state like Italy, a city that I love but that has almost no more an identity, Milan.

A street in the city center, Via Torino, a wall of a building near a tram stop, a wall and an inscription. Woe betide anyone who touches us. It’s not just a sign, it’s a scream. A piercing shriek, a weak threat, maybe just for now.

People of this city, like thousands of others. Many walk fast, avoiding the clash with whom is coming on the same sidewalk, at the last moment. Others are waiting for the tram to arrive, constantly late, as our serenity. Ready to go home, to go to work, or in order to reach his friend, even if imaginary.

Others have only stopped here because they are tired because they can no longer go on. Or maybe they want to embrace the friend who has lost a loved one. Somebody wants to give a kiss, a stolen kiss. Someone has stopped to think that, that’s all. Woe betide anyone who touches us.

Light becomes faint over the city. Yet the writing continues to be seen, to be heard. Words in Italian that, seeing who passes in front of us, they all read them, maybe all are screaming them, even if they come from far away, or perhaps because of it, they understand them, as well.

Time is running out. It almost seems to live a countdown. And one day that sign will be written blanket, an obeyed hand will restore the uniform greyness. But I’m sure we’ll continue to hear that scream. Woe betide anyone who touches us. I came across that inscription for more than a year, I tried to tell the story, with the tiny hope of making the voice of the people, for as long as possible.
